What is SynTuition®?
SynTuition® is the first-of-its-kind application of artificial intelligence (AI) to aid in the diagnosis of Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI). SynTuition® uses an algorithm that was developed using unsupervised machine-learning to combine multiple test results to alleviate the need for physicians to interpret multiple test reports, apply and calculate a diagnostic criteria, and diagnosis. SynTuition® uses a single aspiration, tested by a single laboratory, to provide enhanced results for PJI.
SynTuition® brings together the results for 5 analytes and assesses not only their individual results, but the interaction with other analytes. Included are:
- Synovasure® Alpha Defensin
- Synovial Fluid C-Reactive Protein (CRP)
- White Blood Cell (WBC) Count
- PMN %
- Red Blood Cell (RBC) Count
Culture is performed alongside the Synovasure® Comprehensive PJI Panel, but is not included in the SynTuition® Score.

SynTuition® is included as part of the Synovasure® Comprehensive PJI Panel. To order the panel with SynTuition®, you would simply select it from the Comprehensive PJI Panel section of the Test Requisition Form provided in the Synovasure® Infection Transportation Kit.

No, if you currently have an account with CD Laboratories, there is no need to establish a new one. Accounts are physician-specific and are used for all testing available at CD Laboratories.

Results are provided once complete via password-protected PDF and fax to the physician. The SynTuition® Score will be at the top of the result report in the form of a numeric score and color gradient. For an example test report, click here.
In the event that there is not enough fluid to perform all the tests included as part of the Synovasure® Comprehensive PJI Panel with SynTuition®, a score would NOT be reported. Only specimens with results for all included tests will receive a SynTuition® Score.
If this occurs, you will receive information on the reason no score could be reported. Individual tests will still be reported as possible and billing will reflect only the tests performed.
